Jan Showers is truly an inspiration. Her vision for not only designing a space, but her ability to put together truly unique items and colors is a gift. Her style is timeless, seemingly effortless with a touch of glamour that combines textures and a variety of periods. To me each space Jan creates has a feeling of personality and a space where one can actually live in style without having to worry about ruining anything. In her designs, it is clear that Jan has a sense of style that continues to evolve yet remains classic. It is no wonder that notable publications such as Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, InStyle Home, Town & Country, and many others have not only featured her work but also have recognized her firm notably has one of the top design & architecture firms in the U.S.
I especially love her tablescapes, which bring fun and character to any room. I am inspired by her attention to detail and use of color. Each space is interesting in its own way and my eyes never seem to get bored. It makes total sense that in 2002, Jan started to make custom pieces that she had been designing for her clients.
For a great read and a beautiful coffee table book, be sure to pick up Jan’s books. The first one is titled “Glamorous Rooms”, which is now in its sixth printing and is a compilation of Jan’s work over the past 25 years. Her second book titled “Glamorous Retreats”, takes you into Jan’s most luxurious spaces across North American and the Caribbean. Both books are a must read that will leave you inspired!

The Kilby family has been in the dairy business for over 100 years. Owners, Phyllis and Bill Kilby have proudly carried on the family farm legacy with Kilby Cream, the family owned and operated business they established over 40 years ago in Cecil County, Maryland. They sell their own fresh, glass bottled milk, homemade ice cream, butter and more on the farm. Even better, they now collaborate with other local farms to offer eggs, breads and meat – all available now by home delivery – right to your door. It doesn’t get much better than that.
All Kilby Cream dairy products start with the cows right on their property in Rising Sun, MD. The farm has over 500 Jersey and Jersey/Holstein cross cows that are grass-fed and never given growth hormones or feed containing antibiotics – producing delicious, farm fresh milk that is pasteurized, but minimally processed and sold in returnable, reusable glass bottles that reduce impact on the environment.
All dairy products are available for purchase at Kilby Cream or online through their home delivery service.
In 2005, Kilby Cream added homemade ice cream to their expanding menu of products made on the farm. As one of only three ice cream shops in Maryland that complete the entire process on site, they pride themselves on serving ice cream that goes from ‘cow to cone in two days’.
With over 50 flavors to choose from, using local ingredients when available, they come up with some unique seasonal flavors, including Strawberry Cheesecake, Mootella and Key Lime Pie.
In addition to dairy products, they can deliver farm fresh eggs from the free-range hens at Andy’s Eggs and Poultry and breads from Golden Grain Bread Co. Seasonally, they offer their own Egg Nog and locally known Milburn Orchards’ Apple Cider and Apple Cider donuts.
Aside from enjoying their farm fresh products, the Kilby family cares about sharing the benefits of agriculture and family farming with their customers and the community. The open farm fields and laid back atmosphere invite you to bring friends and family to enjoy the natural surroundings, visit the farm animals, grab some ice cream and most importantly, appreciate what this local farm has to offer to the community.
