Flowers in Bloom

Spring Flowers, Longwood Gardens

If you have a chance to go visit Longwood Gardens this spring, I would highly suggest doing so because it is truly a sight to see and smell! Some highlights include the magnolia tree, tulips, bluebells, crabapple trees and the list goes on and on. I could spend a whole day looking around the beautiful grounds, conservatory, and of course, the gift shop. My personal favorite spot is the Peony Garden, which is in bloom once a year in May and is located on the western side of the 1908 Square Fountain. It’s sort of a secret spot where not too many people are often around, plus peonies are one of my favorite spring time flowers!

Pook & Pook, Inc.

Some of the best days are spent antiquing. Leisurely browsing about until you spot a gem or two. Then there is a day spent at an antique auction where the bidding process is action packed.

In the heart of Chester County, resides a beautiful old stone building that dates back to the 1700s. I love this type of architecture surrounded by country side. The building is home to the offices of the antique auction house Pook & Pook, Inc. Such a fitting space for exquisite antiques!

More often then not, some of the best pieces of furniture in a home are antiques. What makes an antiques is it’s age, the condition it’s in,  and the craftsmanship.  Antiques are popular because of the design, and of course they collect value. My favorite aspect about these pieces are the story they tell. Each piece represents a specific period in time. Going to an auction, like the ones at Pook and Pook, you are guaranteed to find some true rarities and lots of excitement.

Below features some of my favorite antiques that are soon to be auctioned at Pook & Pook:Capture-2-PNG

A true antique really never goes out of the style!

Jan Showers, Interior Designs, Style, Antiques

Jan Showers is truly an inspiration. Her vision for not only designing a space, but her ability to put together truly unique items and colors is a gift. Her style is timeless, seemingly effortless with a touch of glamour that combines textures and a variety of periods. To me each space Jan creates has a feeling of personality and a space where one can actually live in style without having to worry about ruining anything. In her designs, it is clear that Jan has a sense of style that continues to evolve yet remains classic. It is no wonder that notable publications such as Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, InStyle Home, Town & Country, and many others have not only featured her work but also have recognized her firm notably has one of the top design & architecture firms in the U.S.

I especially love her tablescapes, which bring fun and character to any room. I am inspired by her attention to detail and use of color. Each space is interesting in its own way and my eyes never seem to get bored. It makes total sense that in 2002, Jan started to make custom pieces that she had been designing for her clients.

For a great read and a beautiful coffee table book, be sure to pick up Jan’s books. The first one is titled “Glamorous Rooms”, which is now in its sixth printing and is a compilation of Jan’s work over the past 25 years.  Her second book titled “Glamorous Retreats”, takes you into Jan’s most luxurious spaces across North American and the Caribbean. Both books are a must read that will leave you inspired!
